Lulo Reinhardt and The Latin Swing Project at Norwood Live May 20^th

Lulo Reinhardt is the great nephew of Django Reinhardt the famous Belgian Gypsy jazz guitarist but although his own music contains elements of that style he has incorporated other genres into his music. Reinhardt describes his style as a combination of gypsy swing, Latin, samba, flamenco and jazz. He has travelled the globe finding inspiration in the music of other cultures but he also acknowledges that the most important thing is to play with different musicians.
This was certainly evident on Friday night at Norwood. Reinhardt clearly enjoyed the musical interactions between himself and other band members. In particular Daniel Weitlinger on violin blended well with Reinhardt' s. guitar. I remembered seeing Daniel with Monsieur Camembert here several years ago. At times he sounded remarkably like Stephan Grapelli! The rest of the band, . Sean Mackenzie piano Harald Becher bass and Fernando Delgado on drums ably complemented the distinctive guitar playing of Reinhardt. His Manouche guitar. Is based on the unique model that his great uncle played. Of course he included one or two of Django's tunes in his repertoire but most of the songs came from his latest CD` Katoomba Birds' recorded in Australia including a song in the style of his great uncle. All the songs but one on the album are originals written by Reinhardt. It's just very mellow and appealing music from a very gifted guitar player, tuneful jazz always with a swing! .
